Eligibility Criteria

• Only Indian nationals having requisite qualification and experience are eligible to apply.
• Essential educational qualification: Master’s degree in Water Resources Management, Hydrology, Erosion (River/Coastal) Risk Management, Disaster Management or any other disciplines related to disaster management such as geography, geology, environment, civil/geo-technical engineering.
• Desirable educational qualification: A research degree (M.Phil./Ph.D.) in disaster management or related field.
• Post-qualification experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in Erosion (River/Coastal) risk management or related subject.
• Duration of research work (Ph.D./Post Doctoral) will be counted for work experience (actual duration or 5 years, whichever is less).
• Field experience in community-based approaches to Erosion (River/Coastal) risk management and in projects with substantial use of disaster risk reduction and mitigation will be given more weightage in the selection process.
• Both educational qualifications and work experience must prove the credentials of the applicant as an established expert in the field.
• The applicant should not be more than 50 years of age for Senior Consultant; in case of retired Government employee, maximum age limit is 62 years.

Salary/Stipend

• Remuneration band: Rs. 1,25,000/- to Rs. 1,75,000/- per month for Senior Consultant.
• Remuneration in respect of retired Government employee engaged as a Consultant shall be regulated as per Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure O.M. No. 3-25/2020-E.III.A dated 09 December 2020.
• The remuneration is consolidated and inclusive of all applicable taxes and no other allowance shall be provided, as per the recruitment handbook description and ToR.

Age Limit (as on last date of application)

• Maximum age limit is 50 years for Senior Consultant.
• In case of retired Government employees, maximum age limit is 62 years for engagement as Senior Consultant.

General Information/Instructions

• NDMA is the apex-level institution for disaster management in India, mandated under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to lay down policies, plans and guidelines for disaster management and implement related programmes.
• The Disaster Management Act, 2005 provides for constitution of National, State and District Disaster Mitigation Funds to allocate resources for mitigation measures; large-scale structural interventions should be pursued through regular development schemes, while local and community-based interventions are supported by mitigation funds.
• The position of Senior Consultant (Erosion-River-Coastal) is in the Mitigation Division, focusing on Erosion (River/Coastal) as one of the key areas of mitigation due to its frequency, geographical impact, and associated human and physical losses.
• Senior Consultant will work full time and shall not take up any other assignment during the period of consultancy with NDMA.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is required; high-order skills in operating spreadsheets and databases and skill in making presentations are required competencies.
• Allowances such as TA/DA, lodging and boarding expenses etc. for official tours/visits will be provided as per rules/regulations of Government of India/NDMA.
• The engagement is temporary; NDMA can terminate the contract at any time without prior notice and without providing any reason, though normally one month’s notice will be given; Senior Consultant can also seek termination by giving one month’s notice.
• Senior Consultants will be engaged for a fixed period not exceeding three years, with continuation contingent on satisfactory Annual Performance Review; extension beyond three years may be considered under exceptional circumstances, but no extension will be given beyond age 65 years.
